Lane Purser Memorial Road Race Series
The Lane Purser Memorial Road Race Series is an annual running tradition in Memphis, Tennessee, entering its 44th year. The series consists of a progression of ten races held between July and November, allowing participants to gradually increase their distance over several months. Runners have the option to register for the full series, which includes all ten events and entry to a holiday party in January, or register for individual races. A mini-series is also available for children aged 12 and under, covering the first six events.
The series utilizes multiple parks and locations throughout the Memphis area for its different distances:
- 5k (3.1 miles): Held at Audubon Park near the Cancer Memorial. Parking is available on the grass north of the Botanic Gardens and at the intersection of Southern and Perkins.
- 5 Miler (5 miles): Located at WJ Freeman Park in Bartlett. The course starts on Bartlett Boulevard, winds through local neighborhoods, and finishes inside the park.
- 10k (6.2 miles): Hosted at Shelby Farms Park. The start and finish lines are situated near the horse stables at gate 10 off Mullins Station Road.
- 10 Miler (10 miles): Takes place at Shelby Forest State Park. These races are located near shelter six in northern Shelby County.
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles): The first half marathon is a downtown Memphis course starting on Channel 3 Drive near Martyr's Park, featuring a crossing of the Mississippi River pedestrian bridge. The final event is the Big River Crossing Half.
Participants can choose between series-long registration for members or non-members of the Memphis Runners Track Club, or individual race entries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
