Land and Lakes Relay
The Land and Lakes Relay is a point to point team relay that starts at Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa and finishes at Fonta Flora Brewery Whippoorwhill Farm near Lake James in Nebo. The event runs over a single day and includes a post race gathering at the finish location.
Teams may be structured with four or six members. Depending on team size, each runner completes either two or three legs. Individual leg distances range from 2.7 to 8.7 miles. Example cumulative distances for traditional formats are provided for both four person and six person teams.
Team captains register the team and pay the full fee; individual team members then register under that team at no additional charge. The field is limited to 60 teams. Each team is expected to be self supporting and carry its own fluids and food; restrooms are available at most transfer points.
For safety, runners must wear reflective vests and head lamps during early morning hours and are encouraged to use flashing lights for front and back visibility. Compliance will be checked at transfer points. Dogs are not permitted on the course or at transfer points. Each team will receive a parking pass for one vehicle; RVs, campers, and trailers are not permitted.
Each team receives an official race garment and other items. Timing uses bibs with timing chips and individual split times are calculated after the event and sent to team captains. Awards are presented in multiple age and gender categories with baton awards for winning teams. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
