Lamplighter Night Ultra

Event overview

Lamplighter 40 Night Ultra is an overnight trail ultra on 20–21 June 2026, starting and finishing at Goathland Village Hall. The route is a circular course of approximately 40 miles across the North York Moors, visiting triangulation pillars, cairns, crosses and other checkpoint locations. The event runs from sundown to sunup; registration is scheduled about one hour before last light. Entrants are limited to 40 and the minimum age is 18. Entry options are solo (£50) or pair (£95). Total time for the event is listed as about 12 hours.

Logistics and mandatory kit

Checkpoint support includes refreshments, water, fizzy drinks and snacks at checkpoint locations, and one indoor checkpoint serving pizza plus hot and cold drinks. Hot food will be available after the finish, with vegetarian and gluten free options. Each entrant will be given a tracker and will receive a GPX file and a master map for navigation; some route recces are likely. Parking at the village hall is limited to marshals, with additional parking available in the village.

Mandatory kit must be carried by each entrant and includes a map covering the North Yorkshire Moors, a working compass and whistle, head-torch and spare torch or batteries, an emergency bivvy bag, spare hat and gloves, a spare warm top or fleece, waterproof jacket and trousers (taped seams unless Paramo), a battery pack and charging lead, a charged mobile phone (with the race director number), at least 500 ml of drink, at least 60 g of emergency food and a cup for drinks.
