Lakeland Trails at Ullswater
Lakeland Trails at Ullswater is a trail running event based at Jenkin’s Field, Glenridding, Cumbria. Runners travel to the start via Ullswater Steamers when sailings operate; if boats cannot run, organisers use contingency routes along Ullswater’s eastern shore. The 14 km alternate route includes a climb to Boredale Hause when used.
Course routes are waymarked and marshalled and include a mixture of trail terrain with some short sections of tarmac, rocky and rooty sections, and runnable climbs and descents. There are no water stations on the courses, so competitors must carry their own water and a reusable cup. Race numbers are collected on the day and must be worn horizontally for chip timing. The finish is under the event gantry in Jenkin’s Field.
Compulsory kit must be carried for boarding the steamers: hat or buff, gloves, a waterproof jacket, and over-trousers or running tights. Safety rules include no dogs on course, no in-ear headphones (bone conductor headphones permitted), and an instruction to close gates behind you. Parking is managed locally and is cash only for the official car parks; camper vans must use the village pay and display car park and some parking restrictions apply.
An event village offers traders, food and drink, race commentary, medical cover, and prizegiving. Results are published live after the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
