Ullswater (Glenridding, Cumbria)
Lakeland Trails Ullswater is a trail running event on the eastern shores of Ullswater, based at Glenridding. The event offers two main distances:
- 10 km - minimum age 16
- 14 km - minimum age 18
When conditions allow, competitors travel by boat to a start on the opposite shore; if boats cannot sail, contingency routes start from Jenkin's Field. Course highlights include scenic shoreline running, climbs to Silver Crag and a 14 km route that ascends to Boredale Hause before descending into Patterdale. Surfaces are mainly trails with short sections of tarmac and several rocky or rooty sections that may be slippery.
All courses are waymarked and marshalled. Event medics and Patterdale Mountain Rescue will be present. For safety, competitors must carry compulsory kit: a hat or buff, gloves, a waterproof jacket and over-trousers or running tights; kit checks take place before boarding. Earbud headphones are not permitted; bone conduction headphones are allowed. Dogs are not permitted on the course.
The event village includes kit retailers, local food and drink traders, a PA system with race commentary, prizegiving with spot prizes, event photography and a selection of official merchandise and t-shirts available to order in advance and collected after the run.
