Trail Running at Lake Yahou
The Lake Yahou trail race takes place on October 10, 2026, in Anniston, Alabama. Organized by Dirty Soles Trail Races, the event celebrates its fifth anniversary and utilizes the trails around Lake Yahou, which opened for recreational use in 2022. The course primarily consists of non-technical, single-track dirt trails, though natural features like rocks and roots are present. Most of the terrain is runnable, with only select sections containing boulders.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances:
- 50K: Three loops with approximately 3,000 feet of elevation gain and a 10-hour cutoff.
- 10 Miler: A single loop totaling approximately 10.5 miles with 1,000 feet of elevation gain.
- 5.5 Miler: A shorter loop with approximately 551 feet of elevation gain.
The event is limited to 100 runners to maintain a small-scale atmosphere. Aid stations are located at the start/finish area and near the McClellan Trailhead at approximately 3.8 miles. This is a cupless event, requiring runners to provide their own hydration vessels.
Finishers in their registered distance receive a hand-painted rock. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers in each category. Runners who register before September 9 are eligible for a long-sleeve shirt. Packet pickup is held on race day at the start line. The finish area features food, music, and beverages.
