Lake Norman Half Marathon Forest Run & 5K
The Lake Norman Half Marathon Forest Run & 5K takes place over two days in early June 2026 at Lake Norman State Park in North Carolina. The start and finish are at the Lake Norman Picnic Ground on the park waterfront. Courses run entirely on asphalt roads that wind and undulate beneath a tree canopy.
Both on-site and virtual options are offered. The event carries USATF certificate number NC18022BDS.
Race distances include:
- Half Marathon 13.1 miles, held on Saturday
- 5K 3.1 miles, held on Sunday
- Virtual Run any distance
Participants receive race swag including a finisher medal, hoodies for half marathon entrants, short sleeve t shirts for 5K entrants, a cup, and a decal. Awards are presented to the top three men and top three women overall and in age groups for both the half marathon and the 5K. Virtual participants receive a participation medal, a race t shirt, and additional race swag that is shipped after the event.
Additional event notes: the half marathon has a 3.5 hour finish requirement due to traffic restrictions; both courses are on paved roads only; strollers start at the back of the 5K; toddlers under four may walk with parents for free. The event names the Human Health Project as a beneficiary and requests that athletes bring a non perishable food item for local food shelters. There are no refunds under any circumstances.
