Event Overview

The Lake District Running Festival is a two-day weekend event dedicated to off-road running. It combines the Grasmere Gallop Trail Races and the OMM Lite Trail Quest. The event takes place at the Grasmere Showground in the Lake District.

Weekend Events

The festival includes two main types of events across Saturday and Sunday.

Trail Races (Grasmere Gallop) These are waymarked races held on Saturday, 30th May 2026. They all start at 11:30. Participants can choose from:

  • 5.7km
  • 10km
  • 17km There is also a 10km Nordic Walk on Saturday. A Trail Marathon is held on Sunday, 31st May 2026, starting at 07:30. Finishers receive a bespoke wooden medal for Saturday races and a slate medal for the Marathon. There are also prizes for completing events on both days.

Trail Quest (OMM Lite) This is a navigation challenge in the Grasmere area. Participants receive a map and must find checkpoints within a time limit. They can compete over one or two days. Options include:

  • Long Course or Short Course.
  • Solo, or as a team of two or three.

Additional Information

Two free children's events are held on the day: the Teddy Dash for under 5s and the Kids Fun Run (around 2km) for under 12s. Day parking and overnight camping for Friday and Saturday nights are available for purchase. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
