Races for 3, 6 and 9 hours follow a repeated loop of about 3.2 miles. The overall winners are the runners or teams who complete the most loops in the shortest accumulated time. Relay teams alternate runners each loop and exchange a chip timer.
The trail terrain is described as moderate to difficult with sections of rock, mulch, dirt and small gravel, plus steps made of rock or wood beams. Runners pass through forested areas, around a pond and some grassland. Trails are marked with reflective signs and ropes for night navigation.
There is one main aid station at the start/finish offering water, Gatorade, pickle juice, pickles, chips, P&J sandwiches, bananas, oranges, chocolates and some hot food options. A small additional water table is located about halfway on the loop. This is a cupless event; runners should bring a reusable bottle or cup.
Rules include staying on marked trails, no dogs/strollers/bikes on course, trekking poles allowed, non refundable entry fees, and event suspension only for severe storms. Finishers receive medals for specified distances and hour races; age and overall awards are listed for the distance events and relays. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
