The Knox County Suicide Prevention 5K and 10K is the sixteenth annual walk and run held in Mount Vernon, Ohio. It takes place at Ariel Foundation Park and is scheduled during National Suicide Prevention Week, which runs September 11 to 19, 2026. The event is organized by a volunteer based nonprofit, the Knox County Suicide Prevention Coalition.
The event format includes both walking and running and offers the following distances:
- 5 km
- 10 km
Proceeds benefit the Knox County Suicide Prevention Coalition. The organization provides grief support, information on available resources, and referrals to community services, and seeks to connect people at risk with local help. Funds raised are used for educational efforts that cover common causes of suicidal behavior, warning signs, and how to assist someone in crisis.
The program includes a remembrance memorial at the park tower and the lighting of the tower and bridge. Families and friends are encouraged to bring a photo of a loved one to share. Awards are presented to the top three overall finishers in each distance. Race registrations are non refundable and non transferable.
