Event Overview
The Knockmealdown Mountain Ultra is a 66 km mountain running event in County Waterford. It takes place on Saturday, April 4, 2026, starting and finishing at Mount Melleray Abbey.
Course & Logistics
The route has 2800 meters of climb and is not marked. GPS devices are permitted and runners are encouraged to download the GPX file. The event is part of the Munster Ultra League.
Mandatory Kit & Safety
A specific list of mandatory kit, categorized as Level C (Advanced), must be brought to the race. This includes a waterproof jacket with hood, hat, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone, foil blanket, waterproof leg cover, a means to carry 500 mL of water, emergency food, a map, and a compass. The exact items to be carried will be finalized on race day. Random kit checks may be conducted, and failure to have required items can lead to denial of entry or disqualification.
Race Day Details
Aid stations will provide sweets, chocolate, Coke, and water. There are several cut-off times along the route for runner safety and volunteer logistics: 10:30 AM at the 15.5 km point, 2:00 PM at 38 km, and 4:00 PM at 51 km, with a total race cut-off of 12 hours. The organizers note that a good hill walker completed the course in 11 hours and 25 minutes. Runners must be capable of handling themselves in bad weather and poor visibility.
