Knockmealdown Half
The Knockmealdown Half is scheduled for Saturday 4 April 2026 in County Waterford. The route distance is 21.00 km with total climb of 1,112 m. The event is rated Extreme, defined as more than 1,000 m ascent or more than 30 km. The race is part of the Munster Half-Marathon League and has a Mandatory Kit requirement of Level C - Advanced.
Route
The race starts at the Liam Lynch trailhead on the north side of the Knockmealdowns. Runners head west along the northern slopes to the Vee, then up the back of Sugarloaf to the famine wall and along the wall to the Knockmealdown summit. The course continues toward Knocknafallia, after which runners descend southward toward the Abbey and the finish. A GPX route is available.
Logistics and rules
Registration and Race HQ are at the Abbey. Runners will be transported by bus from the Abbey to the start, so registration closes sharply to allow the bus journey. Juniors and an early start are not provided. Prizegiving will be at the Abbey. The Mandatory Kit must be carried and may be finalised on the day depending on conditions; required items include a waterproof jacket with integrated hood and taped seams, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, charged mobile phone with emergency number stored, foil blanket or bivvy bag, waterproof full leg cover, means to carry at least 500 mL water, emergency food, map of the route/area, and a compass.
