Knee Knackering North Shore Trail Run : overview
The Knee Knackering North Shore Trail Run is a trail race of approximately 30 miles / 48 kilometres that runs between Whyte Lake and Deep Cove on Vancouver’s North Shore. The route follows the Baden Powell Centennial Trail and includes substantial elevation change: ascent 8000' / 2438 m and descent 8300' / 2529 m. The course may be adjusted slightly year to year due to trail maintenance and is marked on race day.
The event began in 1989 and is produced as a not-for-profit by volunteers. It raises funds for North Shore Search and Rescue and uses random selection to choose participants. Registration for the random selection occurs during specified windows; selected runners are required to pay registration fees in Canadian dollars. Race entries are non-transferable and non-refundable except in specific circumstances such as pregnancy.
Event specifics and rules: there are nine aid stations, a drop bag service to the Cleveland Dam aid station, and a cupless policy so runners must bring their own drinking container. Hiking or running poles are not allowed. A 10-hour overall cutoff applies and there are additional aid station cutoffs. Package pickup and a pre-race briefing occur in the days before the race, and mandatory pre-race sign-in takes place at the start area. There is no parking at the start; parking is available near the Deep Cove finish and a free shuttle transports runners to the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
