Event overview

Great Owl Running is organising two races at Kirkstall Bridge Inn in Leeds. Distances offered:

  • 16 km - multi-terrain trail/road hybrid
  • 10 km - canal towpath out-and-back

Both routes follow sections of the Leeds Liverpool Canal and River Aire and include Calverley Cutting. The event has an age limit of 18+ and an entry limit is stated. The terrain includes canal towpath, riverside trail and public footpaths. The course is undulating, with approximate elevation gains of ~200 m for the 16 km and ~60 m for the 10 km.

Course, facilities and requirements

The route will be marked and marshalled at key areas; runners receive a route map or description. Facilities at Race HQ include toilets and bag storage. The event is cupless: refill stations are provided but runners must bring their own water container. Cups are provided at the 10 km turnaround point only. Trail shoes are advised. All runners must carry warm, windproof/waterproof clothing appropriate for winter conditions. The 16 km race is listed as not suitable for wheelchairs.

Optional extras such as medals, t-shirts or a "Trees not Tees" donation are offered for entrants. Race registration and the HQ are at Kirkstall Bridge Inn, 12 Bridge Rd, Leeds LS5 3BW.
