Kirby Derby
The Kirby Derby is an athletic event held at Forest Reserve Park in Monticello, Illinois. Organized by the Kirby Foundation, the event supports the development of the Wellness Trail. The competition takes place on an open course, though volunteers are stationed at every intersection to guide participants and manage traffic.
Participants can choose between two main distances:
- 5K Run/Walk
- 10K Run
The route includes designated hydration points to assist runners during the race. Water stations are located near Nick's Park and Monticello Laundry. Participants in the 10K event pass the second water station twice.
Registration remains open until the morning of the event, though no cash transactions are accepted on-site; all same day registrations must be completed via mobile device. Participants who wish to switch between distances must do so by noon on the day before the race. T-shirts are guaranteed for those who register by the early April deadline.
Logistics such as bib and shirt pickup are hosted at the park pavilion. These materials can be collected on the Friday afternoon before the race or on the morning of the event. Awards for the 5K participants begin once the majority of the field has finished, followed immediately by the 10K ceremony. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
