Kirby Derby
The Kirby Derby is an annual sporting event held in Monticello, Illinois. The event takes place at Forest Reserve Park and offers two distinct distances for participants:
- 10K Run
- 5K Run/Walk
The event is organized to support the development of the Wellness Trail, with proceeds benefiting the Kirby Foundation. The race is held on an open course, meaning roads are not closed to the public. However, volunteers are stationed at every intersection to guide participants and manage traffic.
Two water stations are located along the route to provide hydration. The first is situated near Nick's Park and the second by Monticello Laundry. Participants in the 10K Run pass the second water station twice during their race.
Registration is available online and remains open until the morning of the event. On-site registration must be completed via a mobile device, as cash payments are not accepted at the park. Participants can pick up their race bibs and shirts at the park pavilion on the Friday afternoon before the race or on the morning of the event. An awards ceremony follows the races, beginning with the 5K followed by the 10K. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
