Culbin Forest 8-hour Challenge 2026
The event on 21 November 2026 asks participants to complete as many 4.367 mile loops as possible within an eight hour period. A timing cut-off prevents starting an extra lap near the end and a final completion cut-off applies. Laps are recorded electronically by wrist tags that register each lap start and finish.
The route follows trail paths around Culbin Forest and includes about 135 ft of ascent per lap. A GPX file is provided for full route details.
Distances achieved by lap count:
- 3 laps = Half Marathon
- 6 laps = Full Marathon
- 7+ laps = Ultra Marathon
Basecamp provides kit storage under limited liability and houses two 6 x 3 meter gazebos. Spectators are welcome at Basecamp. Event parking is in the left-hand field at the Culbin Forest entrance and marshals will direct vehicles on the event morning.
Mandatory kit includes sufficient nutrition and hydration (minimum 1500 ml fluid and roughly 60–90 g carbohydrates per hour of running), suitable clothing for weather, dry clothes for after the event, and a mobile phone. Timing tags must be worn visibly and handed in at Basecamp after finishing to finalise results and receive a finisher bag.
Volunteers are invited to take roles such as start/finish staff, route marshals, registration and car park support and are rewarded with a free future event entry. Refunds are available up to two months before the event; transfers follow the event rules on the event page. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
