Kings Winter Relay
The Kings Winter Relay is a team relay race held on 6 December at The Plough Pub in Kings Walden, Hitchin SG4 8LA. The event is a reincarnation of the Hitchin Relay Race that took place 12 years earlier and is organised as a four-person team competition on public roads.
Distances
- Relay - Mens - 16 km team, ages 15+
- Relay - Womens - 16 km team, ages 15+
- Relay - Mixed - 16 km team, ages 15+
Each lap measures 1.33 km and the course is run clockwise. Teams hand over a relay baton in the transition zone located in the front car park of The Plough. Runners take turns running one lap in order and each runner completes three laps, so a team covers 12 laps in total (16 km or 10 miles). Lap completions are confirmed at the check in desk.
Teams consist of four people. Categories are Mens, Womens, and Mixed where mixed teams must include two men and two women. Participants must be at least 15 years old. Dogs and young children are not permitted to participate. Headphones are not allowed.
Registration is £40 per team with on the day entry available. T-shirts are an optional purchase at £15 and can also be bought online. Prizes include trophies for winning teams in each category, fun prizes for best team name and best costume, and a bespoke medal for every runner.
