Kinetic Triathlon Festival : Lake Anna State Park
The Kinetic Triathlon Festival is a weekend of sanctioned triathlon races held at Lake Anna State Park. The event uses a sandy beach swim start and freshwater lake swims with sighting buoys roughly every 75 meters. Banked stadium seating and the surrounding hillside provide broad spectator views of the swim and finish areas.
Race courses use rolling rural roads and park roads. Bike routes travel through farm country and pine plantations on paved roads. Run courses are looped and stay largely within the state park, with wooded and shaded sections and some park traffic on the first mile. Aid stations and technical support are provided on course.
Race options and distances:
- Long Course (Half) 1.2 mile swim, 57 mile bike, 13.1 mile run
- Olympic 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike, 10 km run
- Sprint 750 m swim, 15.5 mile bike, 5 km run
Additional details: the Long Course bike has about 2000 ft of climbing and the Long Course run about 800 ft of gain. Water temperatures are typically in the mid 60s to low 70s depending on season and a reading is posted the Thursday before the event. The festival is USA Triathlon sanctioned and includes multiple award and age group categories, aquabike and relay options. Packet pickup is available at the park in the days before and on race days; photo ID is required. Registration is non refundable and deferral options are available. A 20% discount applies when registering for both race days. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
