About the race
Kinetic Triathlon Festival is staged at Lake Anna State Park and includes Long Course, Olympic and Sprint triathlons held across a weekend. The event is based on a beach start and takes place on lake water with spectator viewing from banked stadium style seating.
Distances offered
- Long Course (Half): 1.2 mile swim; 57 mile bike; 13.1 mile run
- Olympic: 1.5 km swim; 40 km bike; 10 km run
- Sprint: 750 m swim; 15.5 mile bike; 5 km run
The swim courses begin from a sandy beach on a rectangular layout with two turns and sighting buoys approximately every 75 meters. Water temperatures are measured and posted before the event and are often in the mid 60s to low 70s, making some swims wetsuit legal. Swim areas and hillsides provide open, spectator friendly viewing.
Bike courses use rolling rural roads on generally good pavement. The Long Course bike is two loops totaling about 57 miles with roughly 2000 feet of climbing; aid stations and technical support are available on course. Run courses remain largely inside the state park on wooded roads or asphalt, use multiple loops depending on distance, and feature aid stations (the Long Course has stations roughly every mile) and elevated spectator areas near the finish.
The festival is USA Triathlon sanctioned. Categories include Overall, Masters, Age Group, Aquabike, Military, Clydesdale, Athena and Relay Teams. Registrations are non refundable; deferrals are offered and packet pickup requires photo identification and personal collection. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
