About the race
Kilometers & Kegs for Cool's Legacy is a fundraising running event on September 19, 2026, at the Thurmont Carnival Grounds in Thurmont, MD (123 E Main Street, 21788). The event supports suicide awareness and prevention; net proceeds will be donated to organizations such as the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, JB27, and Operation Second Chance.
Two event options are offered:
- 5K - timed event, not USATF-certified
- Fun Run - family-oriented run/walk; strollers are welcome
The 5K course starts and ends at the event complex and includes a portion on the Thurmont Trolley Trail, a paved trail over the former trolley tracks. Packet pick-up and day-of registration take place at the Carnival Grounds. Cupped water stations will be available along the course and bottled water will be provided at the finish area. The Carnival Grounds has onsite parking.
A post-race celebration at the event features food and beer from Bollinger's Restaurant and Uncle Dirty's Brew Works, plus activities such as a bounce house, raffle baskets, and a 50/50 drawing. 5K runners aged 21 and over receive a complimentary beer and meal plus a commemorative glass; 5K runners under 21 receive a non-alcoholic drink and meal plus a commemorative glass. Fun Run participants receive a hot dog, non-alcoholic drink, and commemorative cup. No outside alcohol is permitted and alcohol may not be taken outside the fenced celebration area.
Medals will be awarded to 1st overall adult male and female and 1st overall kids male and female. The event is scheduled to proceed rain or shine unless officials determine cancellation is required; no refunds are available. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
