Kilometers & Kegs for Cool's Legacy
Kilometers & Kegs for Cool's Legacy is a charity running event on Saturday, September 19, 2026, held at the Thurmont Event Complex, 13716 Strafford Drive, Thurmont MD 21788. Net proceeds will be donated to organizations that support suicide awareness and prevention, including the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, JB27, and Operation Second Chance.
The event offers multiple participation options:
- 5K timed event, portion on the Thurmont Trolley Trail.
- Fun Run kids event, strollers allowed.
Registration opens June 21 and closes September 19. Fees listed for the events are $50 for the 5K and $20 for the Fun Run. The 5K is a timed event and is not USATF-certified; it starts and finishes at the event complex and includes a paved section on the former trolley corridor.
Packet pick-up is available at the Thurmont Event Complex the day before and on event day. The post-race celebration features food from Bollinger's Restaurant and beer from Uncle Dirty's Brew Works. 5K participants aged 21 and over receive one complimentary beer, one complimentary meal, and a commemorative glass with photo ID required; participants under 21 receive a non-alcoholic drink, a meal, and a commemorative glass. Fun Run participants receive a complimentary hot dog, non-alcoholic drink, and commemorative cup. No outside alcohol is allowed and alcohol may not be taken outside the fenced celebration area.
The event will provide cupped water on-course and bottled water at the finish. Medals will be awarded to first overall adult male and female and first overall kids male and female. The Thurmont Event Complex has onsite parking. The event is planned rain or shine but may be canceled for significant safety risks; no refunds.
