Multi-Terrain Racing in East Devon
The Kilmington Kanter is a multi-terrain running event organized by Axe Valley Runners in association with Kilmington Cricket Club. The races take place in and around the village of Kilmington, utilizing a variety of surfaces including roads, woodland trails, and open fields. The main route is characterized by an undulating profile with several steep climbs throughout the course.
Participants can choose from three distinct distances held on the same day:
- 7 miles: A multi-terrain route for runners aged 17 and older.
- 4 km: A shorter version of the course for participants aged 11 and older.
- 1 km: A fun run for children aged 11 and under.
The 7 mile course begins with a circuit of the Kilmington Cricket Field before transitioning to a steady road climb toward the first woodland section. The route continues through road sections toward Umbourne and crosses into fields. After passing over a railway bridge, runners face a climb to Shute and a significant ascent into Shute Woods. The final segment consists of woodland paths and a road section leading back to the finish line. One cupless water station is positioned at approximately the four-mile mark.
Race headquarters are located at the Kilmington Cricket Ground. Facilities on-site include toilets and a bag drop area. Parking is provided at the Kilmington Village Hall and an adjacent field. The event prohibits the use of headphones during the run and does not allow dogs at the Race HQ. Post-race refreshments are available, including a barbecue and a bar.
