Kick Out Mesothelioma 5-Miler & 2.5 Mile Walk : Portland, ME
This event features a point-to-point 5-mile road race and a 2.5-mile walk in Portland, Maine. Packet pickup is at Marathon Sports, 309 Marginal Way. The 5-mile course starts near Cutter Street and the Eastern Promenade and finishes at Sewage Treatment Plant Road and Marginal Way. The walk starts and finishes at the Sewage Treatment Plant Road Bayside Trail entrance. Maps are provided for the point-to-point layout; the 5-mile start is about 1.3 miles from packet pickup and the finish is about 0.3 miles from Fleet Feet Maine Running.
The event makes donations to mesothelioma research and is held in memory of a local pipefitter, Navy veteran, and city councilor who died in 2003 after a short cancer diagnosis that included mesothelioma. Awards include cash prizes for top overall male and female, age-group awards, and team awards for club, corporate, and open teams (four-person minimum to score). Shirts are guaranteed through October 10 subject to availability. A post-race gathering with drink specials is listed at Fore Play Sports Pub, 436 Fore Street, Portland.
