Kerry Way Ultra
The Kerry Way Ultra follows the full Kerry Way route around the Iveragh Peninsula, approximately 120 miles (200 km). The course passes through the Old Red Sandstone mountains of Kerry and sections of Killarney National Park. The event uses Killarney Racecourse for registration and as the race finish area.
There are multiple event options:
- 200 km full Kerry Way
- 101 km UltraNite
- 58 km UltraLite
- 200 km UltraRelay for teams
Entrants to the 200 km event must hold qualifying results from the previous calendar year: completion of two marathons or one 50 mile ultra or one 100 km ultra. Registration takes place on the evening before the race and includes a mandatory gear check, allocation of trackers and race numbers. Trackers must be attached to the rucksack and numbers worn visibly on the front.
Mandatory equipment includes a full waterproof jacket and trousers, a head torch (minimum 200 lumens) with spare batteries, paper route maps (OSI sheets 78, 83 and 84), a working mobile phone, a survival bag or blanket, whistle, basic first aid, hat and gloves, water and spare food, and a coloured ribbon to identify start groups. The committee provides drop bag transport to designated crew stops; some drop bags are non-returnable and others are returned to the racecourse. Support crews are allowed at named crew stops along the route. The event schedules an UltraBrunch and prizegiving at the racecourse after the race.
