KAR 1-Mile Challenge
The KAR 1-Mile Challenge is a running event taking place at the WMU Business Tech Innovation Park in Kalamazoo. The competition features a fast course designed for efficiency and speed. Participants are organized into specific heats that depart in 10-minute intervals to manage the flow of the race and ensure clear timing for all runners.
The event structure includes various categories to accommodate different ages and performance levels:
- 1 Mile
The scheduling for the 1-mile distance is divided into age-group heats, high school heats, and invitational heats. High school divisions are further categorized by personal record (PR) times, with separate heats for boys and girls based on sub or over 5:00 and 6:00 benchmarks. The invitational heats are reserved for women with a PR under 5:30 and men with a PR under 4:30. Organizers may combine or split heats depending on the final number of registrants.
Awards are presented three deep in each age group and category. Special trophies are designated for the winners of the high school and invitational divisions. Timing and scoring are managed by T&H Timing, providing live results throughout the event. Parking is located at the WMU Soccer Field lot, situated within a half mile of the starting line.
