KAR 1-Mile Challenge : Kalamazoo, MI
The event is a 1 mile running race held at WMU Business Tech Innovation Park on July 18, 2026. Runners are organized into age-group, high school, middle school, and invitational heats. Heats are scheduled ten minutes apart and may be combined or split if sizes change.
High school heats are separated by personal record thresholds for boys and girls. Invitational heats are limited by entry standards and offer prize money to the top three finishers. Awards are given three deep in each age group and category, with special trophies for high school divisions.
Team competition is available for three person teams or larger. There are two team categories: Open Teams, scored by age group place of the top three members; and Under Age 19 Teams, scored similarly with all members under 20 and age groupings used for scoring.
Registration pricing varies by date and option. Pre-registration pricing includes a tee shirt for specified early registrants and a no tee shirt option is available for a reduced fee. A discounted price applies for high school age and younger.
Timing and scoring are provided by T&H Timing with live results posted during the event. Parking is available in the WMU Soccer Field lot within a half mile of the start line.
