Kansas City Turkey Trot
The Kansas City Turkey Trot is a Thanksgiving Day tradition held at Swope Park. The event marks its 10th anniversary in 2026 and takes place near the Kansas City Zoo. Participants can choose between different categories including a chip-timed race, fun run categories, and specific activities for children.
The event features the following distances:
- 5 km
- Kids Dash
The 5 km course has a time limit of 1 hour and 20 minutes. The race is chip-timed, with timing chips integrated into the participant bibs to record individual start and finish times. Awards are presented to the top three male and female participants in various age groups, ranging from 10 and under to 70 and over. All children participating in the Kids Dash receive a finisher award.
Participants receive event gear as part of their registration, with options typically including a classic t-shirt or a polyester pullover. At the finish line, refreshments from Donut King are provided. The event supports the Kansas City Dream Center, an organization focused on addressing homelessness, hunger, and human trafficking.
Parking is available in a lot north of the start and finish line. Access to this parking area closes shortly before the races begin, and vehicle movement is restricted for a period during the event to ensure the safety of runners on the course.
