Kansas City Backyard Ultra
Kansas City Backyard Ultra is a Last Runner Standing event held in Mill Creek Park on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, MO. The start/finish area is at the J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain and the course uses the Mill Creek Park Trail.
The Backyard Ultra format requires runners to complete a one-loop unit each hour. At this event one loop equals four 1-mile laps on the trail, and runners have one hour to finish the loop and be inside the start corral to begin the next. A whistle and verbal countdown protocol signals each loop start; a cowbell marks the START. Timed events run in the opposite direction of the Last Runner Standing participants.
Key rules and services:
- Once a loop starts, runners may not receive aid on course or return to race HQ until the loop is complete.
- Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are not allowed.
- Runners may have up to two crew members and a small chair area near the start/finish.
- Restrooms are available and a primary aid station is available each mile with water, ice, food, and Heed electrolyte drink.
- Runners are responsible for their own aid; water and coffee are provided for runners only.
Participant items and results: Last Runner Standing entrants receive a folding chair; all runners receive a buff, cinch-tie bag, and a finisher sticker showing total miles. Individual finishing mileage will be recorded as accumulated miles rather than listing a DNF. No refunds or deferrals are offered. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
