Kansas City Backyard Ultra
Kansas City Backyard Ultra takes place August 7-9, 2026 in Kansas City, MO, at Mill Creek Park on the Country Club Plaza with the start and finish by the J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain. The event includes a Last Runner Standing backyard ultra and separate timed events.
The backyard ultra format requires runners to complete a loop equal to 4.16667 miles every hour until only one runner completes a final loop. The course is made of four 1 mile laps on the Mill Creek Park Trail and features a mondo like track surface. The event follows Backyard Ultra rules exactly and is a Silver qualifying race in affiliation with the Backyard Ultra Series.
Timed events include:
- Last Runner Standing backyard ultra
- Twelve hour timed event
- Nine hour timed event
- Six hour timed event
- Three hour timed event
Timed runners will run in the opposite direction of Last Runner Standing participants. There is an abundantly stocked aid station every mile loop; runners are responsible for their own aid. Other rules include no artificial aids including trekking poles, only two crew allowed per runner, a small area near the start and finish for a chair, and restrooms near the start and finish. Water and coffee are provided for runners only.
