Kansas City Backyard Ultra
Kansas City Backyard Ultra takes place in Mill Creek Park on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City, MO, with the start/finish at the J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain. The course uses the Mill Creek Park Trail and is laid out as four 1-mile laps; four laps equal one full loop.
The event follows the Backyard Ultra format: runners must complete a full loop within one hour to be eligible to start the next hour. Participants who do not complete a loop within the hour are recorded as DNF for the Last Runner Standing competition. Standard Backyard Ultra rules apply, including prohibition of artificial aids and limits on crew assistance during a loop. Runners must be in the start corral to begin each hourly loop.
Timed options run alongside the Last Runner Standing event. Timed events include 3, 6, 9, and 12 hour formats; timed runners use a reverse direction on the course and have access to a primary aid station stocked roughly every mile with water, ice, food, and electrolyte drink. Runners may set up a small personal area near the start/finish and restrooms are available at the start/finish area. Each Last Runner Standing participant receives a folding chair; all runners receive a buff, cinch bag, and a finisher car sticker showing distance covered. The event is held in affiliation with the Backyard Ultra Series. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
