Kansas City Backyard Ultra
Kansas City Backyard Ultra is a multi-day running event held in Kansas City, Missouri on August 7–9, 2026. The event takes place at Mill Creek Park on the Country Club Plaza with the start and finish located near the J.C. Nichols Memorial Fountain. It includes a Last Runner Standing format and timed events of three, six, nine and twelve hours.
The Last Runner Standing format uses a repeating loop made from four one-mile laps on the Mill Creek Park Trail. The trail has a mondo-like track surface and the loop must be completed within the allotted hour to continue; runners who fail to complete a loop within that hour are recorded as a DNF. The event follows Backyard Ultra rules; participants cannot receive aid on course, artificial aids are not allowed, and slower runners must allow passes. Runners may use a small area near the start/finish to place a chair between loops. Each timed event has an aid station available every mile; additional water and coffee are provided for runners.
Runners receive event items including a folding chair for Last Runner Standing entrants, a buff and cinch-tie bag, and a finisher mileage sticker. Only two crew members are allowed per runner. Onsite race-day registration is accepted with cash or Venmo; there are no refunds or deferrals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
