Kananaskis 100 Mile Relay
The event is a 100 mile team relay that starts among the rolling hills of Longview in southwestern Alberta, travels the Highwood Pass on the highest paved highway in Canada, and continues into the Kananaskis Valley. Legs nine and ten include a cross country segment that finishes in Kananaskis Village.
Entry is limited to 60 teams and is first come, first served with tiered pricing. Only the team captain needs to register initially; full team rosters are submitted later on a separate platform. Registration fees are non refundable and non transferable. Cancellation insurance can be purchased during registration.
Forced starts are used for slower teams to allow the course to be completed within the available daylight window and to meet a 14 hour completion requirement for some starts. Teams with a predicted overall time over 16 hours may face simultaneous forced starts and should notify the race office. Organizers provide sample race day plans and require that teams follow the published rules, particularly regarding traffic and vehicle logistics.
Included items and services listed for participants include race morning coffee and snacks in Longview, a post race meal at the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge, an after party featuring Annex beer and chef created food, preferred rates at the Pomeroy, and event t shirts. Parks regulations require runners to carry bear spray from the start of leg 3 to the finish; passing spray between runners at exchange stations is permitted with additional requirements for forced starts.
