John Wayne Grit Series - Lone Pine
The John Wayne Grit Series - Lone Pine is a trail running event scheduled for October 17, 2026, that takes place in the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area. The course uses dirt roads and single-track trails, includes hills, and offers views of Mt. Whitney. Both loop courses start and finish alongside Movie Road and are chip timed.
Distances:

- 10K
The elevation at Lone Pine is about 3,700 feet. There are three aid stations on the half marathon course and two aid stations on the 10K. The event is cup less; participants should bring a handheld water bottle or hydration pack. Filled water bottles will be available for finishers at the finish line.
Participants receive a John Wayne Grit Series participant shirt. Finishers receive a finisher mug and a finisher shirt. Packet pickup is scheduled the day before at the Museum of Western Film History in Lone Pine and on event day at the start line; the museum also offers free parking and a shuttle to the start line because there is no parking at the start.
The event benefits the John Wayne Cancer Foundation and is linked to fundraising activities, including a Fundraising Week in late September to early October 2026. Podium prizes are awarded to the top three female and top three male finishers on each course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
