John Wayne Grit Series - Lone Pine
The John Wayne Grit Series event in Lone Pine on October 17, 2026 benefits the John Wayne Cancer Foundation. The course runs through the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area and includes dirt roads, single-track trails and hills with views of Mt. Whitney. The venue elevation is approximately 3,700 feet.

Both events use loop courses that start and finish alongside Movie Road and are chip timed. The half marathon has three aid stations on course; the 10K has two aid stations. This event is cup less; participants should bring a hydration pack or handheld bottle that volunteers can refill. Each participant receives a JWGS participant shirt and a finisher mug and finisher shirt at the finish line. Race medals and podium prizes are awarded to the top three female and top three male finishers for each course.
Packet pickup is mandatory on October 16, 2026 at the Museum of Western Film History in Lone Pine; the museum admission is included with a race bib. Cancer survivors who register receive a complimentary yellow bandana at packet pickup while supplies last. There is no pacing or muling allowed; violators will be disqualified. Parking is provided at the Museum of Western Film History with shuttle access to the start area. Merchandise will be available for sale and post-race activities include finish line music and local Grit Down festivities.
Early bird pricing saves $10 until September 5, 2026. Registration closes October 14, 2026. Fundraising week is September 28 to October 4, 2026 with a fundraising goal of $65,000. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
