John Wayne Grit Series - Lone Pine
The John Wayne Grit Series at Lone Pine is a trail and dirt-road event through the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area with views of Mt. Whitney. The course includes dirt roads, single-track trails and hills, and both loop courses start and finish alongside Movie Road. The venue elevation is approximately 3,700 feet.
Distances offered:
- Half marathon - loop course, chip timed, three aid stations.
- 10K - loop course, chip timed, two aid stations.
The event benefits the John Wayne Cancer Foundation and includes fundraising activities; Fundraising Week is scheduled for September 28 to October 4, 2026. Registration closes October 14, 2026 and the event date is October 17, 2026. Packet pickup is available at the Museum of Western Film History the day before the event and at the start line on race day. Each participant receives a JWGS participant shirt and finishers receive a finisher mug and finisher shirt at the finish line.
Logistics note: parking is free at the Museum of Western Film History with shuttle service to the start line; there is no parking at the start. The event is cup less; runners should bring a handheld bottle or hydration pack. Race results include podium awards for three female and three male winners per course. Cancer survivors who register receive a complimentary yellow bandana at packet pickup while supplies last. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
