John Wayne Grit Series - Lone Pine
The Lone Pine event on October 17, 2026 is a trail-based running event hosted in the Alabama Hills National Scenic Area. The course follows dirt roads and single-track trails, includes hills, and offers views of Mt. Whitney. Both loop courses start and finish alongside Movie Road and are chip timed for those who want to race; participants may also run at their own pace.

The event benefits the John Wayne Cancer Foundation and includes fundraising activities and recognition. Fundraising week is scheduled for September 28 to October 4, 2026. Early bird pricing tiers are listed with deadlines in June, July, and September 2026; registration closes October 14, 2026.
Packet pickup is available Friday, October 16, 2026 at the Museum of Western Film History in Lone Pine from 4 PM to 6 PM, and additional pickup is available on race day at the start area. Each participant receives a participant shirt and finishers receive a finisher mug and finisher shirt at the finish line. Cancer survivors receive a complimentary yellow bandana at packet pickup while supplies last.
The event is cupless; participants should bring a handheld bottle or hydration pack. There will be three aid stations on the half marathon course and two on the 10K. Parking is free at the Museum of Western Film History with shuttle service to the start area; there is no parking at the start line. Podium prizes are awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers on each course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
