Cerro Gordo Silver Run
The Cerro Gordo Silver Run on May 23, 2026 takes place at Cerro Gordo Mines near Keeler, California. The course is an uphill road race of 8 miles that gains about 4,600 feet in elevation and finishes at the historic ghost town of Cerro Gordo. The route follows the Cerro Gordo Road, originally carved out in 1865 to move silver from the mountains.
Aid stations are located about every mile and are stocked with fuel and encouragement. Entries include a limited-edition Silver Run 2026 shirt and a finisher's medal. Shuttle vans are provided to transport participants back down from the summit. There is no official time limit for completing the course.
On the summit there is a mountaintop barbecue, live music and games, and opportunities for self-guided exploration of the abandoned town.
Nearby accommodation options are described by the organizers. A neighbor offers camping spots in Keeler less than one quarter mile from the starting area for $20 per spot with restrooms. Lone Pine is about 15 miles away and has hotels and motels. There is also BLM land in the area where free camping is permitted for up to 14 days. Multiple parking lots will be available in Keeler on race day and volunteers will direct traffic; shuttle buses will return participants to those lots after the event.
