Cerro Gordo Silver Run 2027
The Cerro Gordo Silver Run is an uphill running race from Keeler, CA to the historic Cerro Gordo town. The course covers 8 miles with approximately 4,600 ft of vertical gain, following the old Cerro Gordo Road carved in 1865 to move silver and supplies.
After crossing the finish at the mountaintop, participants find a mountaintop barbecue with mains, sides, and drinks, plus live music, games, and opportunities for self-guided exploration of the abandoned town. Shuttle vans are provided to return runners to the valley.
Race services include aid stations approximately every mile stocked with fuel, a limited-edition event shirt, and a finisher medal. There is no official time limit for completing the course; recorded finish times have ranged widely, with the 2026 winning time listed as 1:18:26.
Logistics note nearby overnight and parking options. Camping in Keeler is available less than a quarter mile from the start for $20 per spot with restrooms on site. Lone Pine, about 15 miles away, offers hotels and motels. BLM land around the area allows free camping for stays up to 14 days. Multiple parking lots in Keeler will be available on the morning of the event and volunteers will direct arrivals. Spectator passes include a shuttle ride up and the mountaintop barbecue for a fee.
