The Cerro Gordo Silver Run is a mountain road race held on May 23, 2026, in Keeler, California, with the finish at the historic Cerro Gordo Mines ghost town. The course is an uphill road route of 8 miles with about 4,600 vertical feet of ascent, ending at the abandoned townsite.
Race details and logistics
The race has aid stations approximately every mile. Participants receive a limited-edition shirt and a finisher medal. Shuttle vans transport participants down from the summit to the parking area after the event. There is no official time limit; the previous year’s winning time was recorded as 1:14:04. At the summit there is a mountaintop BBQ, live music and games, and opportunities for self-guided exploration of the abandoned town.
Camping and parking information: a nearby campground in Keeler offers spots less than 1/4 mile from the start for $20 per spot with restroom access. Lone Pine, 15 miles away, provides additional lodging options. BLM land around the area allows free camping for up to 14 days.
