Event Overview
The John Deere Tractor & Engine Museum 5K Walk/Run takes place in Waterloo, Iowa, at the site of the first John Deere tractor factory. This location has been home to John Deere Waterloo Works for over a century. The event is held at the museum and brings together employees and community members from the Cedar Valley.
Participants follow a 5K route consisting of a flat, closed-to-traffic loop. The course is designed for both serious racers and recreational runners. In addition to the main distance, there is a specialized event for children featuring varying short distances:
- The Spoker Sprint - Kids Run: Distances ranging from 25 yards up to 250 yards based on the age of the participant.
Exhibition and Community Impact
The race is part of a larger two-day event called Deere Days at the Museum. This celebration includes outdoor and indoor exhibits, blacksmith demonstrations, STEAM on Wheels, and a tractor show. The museum facilities remain open for visitors to explore the historical displays. Following the completion of the 5K, medals are awarded to participants.
The event supports local charitable efforts. A portion of the registration fee is donated to the Northeast Iowa Foodbank. This contribution helps provide food and resources for children, families, and seniors experiencing hunger within the Northeast Iowa community.
