The Joe Keany Memorial 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run
The Joe Keany Memorial event takes place on May 31, 2026 in Miller Place, NY, with activities centered at the North Country Road School / Middle School. The program offers two running options and on-site registration opportunities.

- 1 Mile Run
The course is a USATF route that starts and finishes at the Middle School, passes through historic Miller Place, follows the shoreline past Mount Sinai Harbor, and includes the climb up Cedar Drive before returning to the school. Jogging strollers are welcome. The organizer anticipates over 450 participants.
Shirts are guaranteed for entrants who register by May 20 at midnight. Early bird bib pick-up and general registration occur the day before at the Middle School, and day-of registration is available on site for both events. A 50/50 raffle will be held; the prize winner keeps the winnings.
Awards for the 5K include the Keany Cup for the first MPSD student or alumni male and female, top three overall male and female, top three masters male and female, and age-group medals across multiple categories. The 1 Mile awards include medals for the top five male and female finishers ages 12 and under and ribbons for all finishers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
