About the race
The JJK5K is a track run and walk held at World Wide Technology Raceway on Monday, September 7, 2026. The event opens the Enjoy Illinois 300 weekend and honors Jackie Joyner-Kersee. Proceeds support the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation and Raceway Gives programs that fund youth and STEM initiatives.
Participants may choose between these course options:
- 5K run
- 1.25 mile walk
Registration for the 5K includes a commemorative T-shirt, an event medallion, free and convenient parking, two tickets to the Enjoy Illinois 300 NASCAR Cup Race on September 13, and free downloadable photos. Registration for the walk includes event entry and similar packet items at a lower fee. Packet pickup is available on site.
Awards are presented for top finishers by age group with medals for the top three in each class and trophies for top overall finishers. Pets are permitted on the 1.25 mile walk and receive a scarf; there are medals for top finishing pets. Jackie Joyner-Kersee will present awards and be available for photos with participants.
Course support includes water stations throughout and restroom and refreshment locations in the midway and infield. The event takes place across WWTR facilities, using the oval track used for the NASCAR weekend, and benefits local youth programs through race proceeds.
