Event Overview
The JJK5K is an annual athletic event held at the World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Illinois. Taking place during the Labor Day weekend, this event serves as the opening activity for the Enjoy Illinois 300 NASCAR Cup Series weekend. The race honors the local Olympic champion Jackie Joyner-Kersee and her contributions to youth programs in the East St. Louis area.
Participants utilize the professional racing facilities, with the course leading around the same oval track used by NASCAR drivers. All proceeds from the registration fees support the JJK Foundation, which provides funding for various youth programs within the Metro East community.
The event offers two distinct distances:
- 5K (running only)
- 1.25 miles (walking only)
Registered participants receive several items and benefits, including an event t-shirt, a commemorative medal, and access to free parking. Each registration also includes two tickets to the Enjoy Illinois 300 NASCAR Cup Race scheduled for later in the month. Runners in the 5K category have access to free downloadable race photos and are eligible for awards if they place among the top three finishers in their respective classes.
