The event is a 5K run/walk held at JFK International Airport with a closed, flat out-and-back course on an active runway. Aircraft operations are routed to another runway while the course is closed; in adverse weather the course may be moved to adjacent airside taxiways. Security screening is part of event procedures and the organizers coordinate with airport authorities.
Registration options include standard and discounted rates for students 18 and under with proof of ID, and fees include processing charges. Bibs are shipped to the address provided during registration; registrants who register early may receive a personalized race number. Pre-purchase raffle tickets and donation options are available.
Amenities include pre-packaged refreshments after the finish and same-day digital results and finish-line photos. Awards are given as trophies for top overall male and female and medals for the top three in multiple age groups, including 14 and under through 80 plus.
Logistics note that there are free shuttle buses between the Federal Circle AirTrain station and Building 14, a secure location will be provided for personal belongings, smartphones are allowed on the runway while fanny packs and regular cameras are not, and strollers are not permitted on the race course.
