Jersey Shore Half Marathon and 2 Mile Run
The Jersey Shore Half Marathon is a historic distance running event held at Sandy Hook, within the Gateway National Recreation Area. Established in 1972, the 2026 edition marks the 53rd running of this competition. The event is hosted by the Shore Athletic Club and features a USATF-certified course that serves as a USATF-NJ Grand Prix points race.
The event offers several participation options:
- 13.1 Miles (Half Marathon)
- 2 Miles
- 13.1 Miles (Racewalker/Wheelchair)
- 13.1 Miles (Virtual Option)
The course consists of a flat, two-loop layout on paved roads that are closed to traffic. Because participants run in both directions, runners are required to stay to the right to allow leaders to pass through the center of the roadway. The half marathon distance has a strict three-hour time limit. For the 13.1 Miles event, pacers are available for target times of 1:30, 1:45, 2:00, 2:15, and 2:30.
Safety regulations prohibit the use of headphones, strollers, dogs, and costumes. These measures ensure runners can hear directions from staff and navigate the multi-directional loops safely. All participants receive a long-sleeve race shirt and a finisher medal. Post-race refreshments are provided at the Lifesaving Station, and an awards ceremony recognizes top finishers and age group winners. Free parking is located in Lot D and Lot C near the start and finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
