The Cookie & Stanley Chera a"h and Cheryl Diamond Jersey Shore 5K Cancer Schlep is an annual run/walk held at Joe Palaia Park in Ocean Township, New Jersey. The event brings together participants across a wide age range, listed in past years from 5 to 90 years old, and proceeds support research and clinical care for BRCA-related cancers.
The Schlep benefits global research into breast and ovarian cancer, supports studies of BRCA mutation carriers, and partially funds the BRCA Multidisciplinary Clinic at Rabin Medical Center’s Davidoff Cancer Center. It also promotes awareness of BRCA genetic screening for breast and ovarian cancer and supports related prostate cancer work.
Race services noted for recent editions include on-site bib pickup with a self-lookup option for those who do not know their bib number, live online and same-day results, and free finish-line photos and video. There is no bag check at the event; participants are strongly encouraged not to bring bags or valuables.
The event offers awards for top finishers: overall male and female, plus age-group awards for male and female in the following brackets 19 & under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and over.
