About the race

Jackass Night Trail is a night race held as part of the Javelina Jundred weekend at McDowell Mountain Regional Park near Fountain Hills, Arizona. The event follows a single loop of the Javelina Jundred course, covering 31 km, and brings runners through the same aid stations used on the main loops.

Aid stations on the loop are Javelina Jeadquarters, Coyote Camp, Jackass Junction, and Rattlesnake Ranch. The longest gaps between stations include a 6.5 mile stretch between Coyote Camp and Jackass Junction. All aid stations provide water, electrolyte drinks, gels, snacks, fruit, and several prepared food options. The race is cupless so runners should bring reusable bottles or a cup for refills.

The Jackass Night Trail emphasizes a festive night atmosphere. Runners are encouraged to wear costumes and carry lighting and glow items. Recommended gear includes a reliable headlamp, spare batteries, and layers for temperature changes overnight. The party area at Jackass Junction is part of the course experience and sits several miles from the finish, so runners should plan for the return to Javelina Jeadquarters.

Crewing is allowed only at Javelina Jeadquarters. No pacers are permitted in the 31 km night race. The event is rated R and includes adult-themed music and entertainment, so it is not a fully kid friendly environment. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
