Jackass Night Trail
The Jackass Night Trail is a night race that uses one loop of the Javelina Jundred course at McDowell Mountain Regional Park, starting and finishing at the Four Peaks Staging Area known as Javelina Jeadquarters. The event covers a single loop of approximately 31 km and follows the same trail system used for the Javelina Jundred events.
The loop runs around the Pemberton Trail and includes four on-course aid stations per loop: Javelina Jeadquarters (start/finish), Coyote Camp, Jackass Junction, and Rattlesnake Ranch. Aid stations are stocked with water, ice, Gatorade, GU gels, sweet and salty snacks, fruit, and several prepared food options. The longest aid gaps include a 6.5 mile stretch between Coyote Camp and Jackass Junction.
Crewing is allowed only at Javelina Jeadquarters. Pacers are not permitted for the 31 km night race. The event encourages festive costume wear and night-specific gear such as a headlamp, extra batteries, and visible glow items. Runners should be aware that Jackass Junction functions as an on-course party area and is about ten miles from the finish, which may affect pacing and return time.
The course is marked and the trail surface includes desert singletrack, sandy washes, and moderate elevation changes typical of the McDowell Mountain landscape.
