Jackass Night Trail
Jackass Night Trail is a nighttime 31 km single-loop option held on the Javelina Jundred course at McDowell Mountain Regional Park. The event runs on the same desert singletrack used by Javelina Jundred and delivers a night-time version of the Javelina experience with themed aid stations and on-course festivities.
The loop follows sections of the Javelina course and is served by four on-course aid stations: Javelina Jeadquarters (start/finish), Coyote Camp, Jackass Junction, and Rattlesnake Ranch. Aid stations are stocked with water, electrolyte drink, gels, fruit, sweet and salty snacks, and several prepared food options. The party area at Jackass Junction is noted as being roughly ten miles from the finish; participants are advised to plan for the return to Javelina Jeadquarters after visiting the junction.
Crewing for the 31 km race is restricted to Javelina Jeadquarters and pacers are not permitted for this distance. Recommended night-race equipment includes a headlamp, spare batteries, and warm layers for overnight temperatures. Participants are encouraged to wear costumes and bring glow elements for visibility as part of the event atmosphere; glow items and headlamps are specifically listed as recommended gear.
The race emphasizes marked trails and night visibility. Course marking and reflective devices are used to assist runners after dark, and runners should be prepared for exposed desert terrain with minimal shade and variable temperatures.
