Jack-O-Lantern 5K & 10K
The Jack-O-Lantern 5K & 10K returns for its eighth year in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. Hosted by the Knights of Columbus and Richland Township Fire & Rescue, the event takes place on the scenic Upper Bucks Rail Trail. The course consists of a packed gravel surface on the rail trail and paved sections through Richland Township Veterans Park. The event includes the following distances:
- 5 km
- 10 km
Participants can choose to enter the standard races or participate in the Pumpkin Challenge. In this challenge, runners select a pumpkin weighing between 2 and 5 pounds from a patch and must carry it by hand for the duration of the race without using any carrying devices. Those who finish with their pumpkin intact receive a finisher prize.
The event features professional chip timing by Bryn Mawr Racing Co. Runners self-seed at the start area based on posted pace times. The start and finish lines are located on the Upper Bucks Rail Trail near the Richland Township Fire & Rescue building. Amenities include indoor restrooms and portable toilets, as well as post-race food provided by local establishments. Participants age 10 and over who register by the early deadline receive a moisture-wicking short-sleeve shirt, while participants under 10 receive a cotton shirt. Strollers are permitted on the course, but animals are not allowed.
Awards are presented to the top overall male and female runners, top masters, and the top three finishers in various age groups. Proceeds from the event support the Richland Township Fire & Rescue Utility Vehicle fund. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
