About the race
The Lehigh Valley New Year's Chaser offers three road race distances on January 1, 2027 at the Ironton Rail Trail in Coplay, PA. The event is held rain or shine and takes place on paved, generally flat asphalt with a common start and finish next to the Cement Kilns.
Distances
- Half Marathon two loops of a 6.55 mile circuit
- 10K one loop using a shorter out-and-back spur (about 6.2 miles)
- 5K standard short course
The half marathon course is described as two loops of a 5.25 mile base loop plus an out-and-back spur that makes each loop 6.55 miles. Course elevations range from about 365 to 389 feet, with roughly 184 feet of elevation gain per 6.55 mile loop and one section that gains 30 feet in three tenths of a mile. Aid stations with water and Gatorade are available approximately every two miles. A four-hour time limit applies to all events.
All registrants receive a t-shirt, finisher medal and a pair of running socks. First-time half marathon and combo finishers receive a plaque. There will not be a formal awards ceremony; awards may be picked up shortly after finishing. Early-start rules apply for the half (and full if offered) but not for the 5K or 10K; early starts are not eligible for awards and have pacing expectations.
