Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge

The Isle of Wight Ultra Challenge invites up to 2,000 participants to journey along the island's coastal path. The route features diverse landscapes, including the southern cliffs, the iconic Needles, and the River Medina estuary. The event basecamp is located in Chale, serving as a primary start and finish point for several distances.

Participants can choose from a variety of distance options and formats:

  • Full Island (106 km): A clockwise loop starting and finishing in Chale, featuring approximately 1,800 meters of climb. This can be completed as a continuous challenge or over two days with an overnight stop in Cowes.
  • 3/4 Challenge (82 km): A point-to-point route from Chale to Culver Down with 1,300 meters of climb.
  • 1st Half Challenge (52 km): Covers the southern coastline and the Needles, running from Chale to Cowes.
  • 2nd Half Challenge (54 km): Runs from Cowes back to the basecamp in Chale.
  • Southern 50 (50 km): A looped route starting and finishing in Chale, heading out toward the Needles.
  • Quarter Challenges (25 km): Choose between the 1st Quarter (Chale to The Needles) or the 4th Quarter (Culver Down to Chale).
  • Medina Challenge (10 Mile): A shorter route exploring the River Medina estuary near Cowes.

The event provides comprehensive support, including a fully signed route with pink arrows and glow-sticks for night sections. Covered rest stops are positioned approximately every 12.5 km, offering food, drinks, medical units, and massage teams. Major rest stops every 25 km provide hot meals. Participants have access to a dedicated challenge app featuring GPS tracking and training guides. Additional facilities include camping packages at Chale and Cowes, shuttle bus transfers to local stations, and parking at key venues.

Special categories include Ultra March for walkers aiming for specific time targets and Trailblazerz for competitive runners. All finishers receive a medal, a T-shirt, and a glass of fizz. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
