iRun for Kids
The iRun for Kids is a fundraising event for the Albany Public Schools Foundation, with proceeds supporting local school programs and activities. This St. Patrick's Day themed event takes place at West Albany High School, with the start and finish lines located at the track.
The event features several race options:
- 10 Mile
- 5K Run/Walk
- Little Leprechaun Dash (800 M)
The Little Leprechaun Dash is designed for students in Kindergarten through 2nd grade and involves two laps around the West Albany track. Participants in this youth race receive a goodie bag containing items such as a water bottle and snacks. Runners in the 5K and 10 Mile races receive finisher medals. First-place winners in each age category for the longer distances are awarded an apple pie.
The event encourages themed outfits and costumes. It is an open registration event where participants of various skill levels can run or walk. Dogs are permitted on the course provided they remain on a leash. All registered runners receive a swag bag including promotional items from sponsors. For participants in the 5K or 10 Mile distances, registration before the February deadline includes a commemorative T-shirt.
Participants also have the opportunity to vote for a Greater Albany Public School; the school with the highest number of votes wins a $500 prize. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
