Interlaken Ice Cream Dash
The Interlaken Ice Cream Dash is a trail running event held in Seattle's Interlaken Park, a 51-acre forested area situated between the Montlake and Capitol Hill neighborhoods. This event is part of the Tuesday Night Trail to Grill series and takes place on a Tuesday evening in August. Participants run through a landscape featuring dense forest, dirt trails, and a wide paved road that is closed to motorized traffic.
The event offers two distance options based on a 2.5 km loop:
- 5k (two loops)
- 10k (four loops)
The course begins on the historic paved road with a flat out-and-back section. It then transitions to forest trails, incorporating steep pitches and a sustained climb before descending back through the trees toward the start and finish area. Because the course is a loop, runners will pass the central aid station multiple times. The 5k participants pass the station once at the halfway mark, while 10k runners pass it three times throughout their race.
The aid station provides water, electrolyte drinks, and various foods such as energy bars, gels, fruit, salty snacks, and sandwiches. Following the run, the event hosts a social gathering with hot dogs, watermelon, and ice cream. Awards are presented to the top three finishers in the Female and Open categories for both distances. The event is USATF sanctioned, and as per policy, dogs are not permitted on the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
