Insomnia 100 - Riverway Insomnia, Townsville
Insomnia 100 is a backyard ultra event held at the Riverway Precinct in Townsville. The course is a 4.2 km loop with laps starting on the hour each hour. Laps alternate direction between anti-clockwise and clockwise, and a mid-lap timing checkpoint at Turtle Bridge validates each completed lap.
Participants may enter solo or as teams of two to four. Two event formats are offered:
- 100 km Insomnia 100 Ultra, 24-hour format, solo or team
- 42 km Insomnia 42 Marathon, 10-hour format, solo or team
Key rules and competition format:
- A warning bell sounds shortly before each hour and the start line must be crossed within the allowed window when the hour begins; failure to meet this requirement results in DNF.
- Each lap must be completed before the next hour begins or the entrant is recorded as DNF.
- Teams may rotate runners; any team member may start a lap on the hour.
- Winners are determined by the lowest aggregated time across all completed laps in each event.
Logistics and support: Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
- Race bibs must be worn on every lap; loss of a bib leads to DNF for subsequent laps. A race belt is recommended and available at registration for a fee.
- Physio support is provided at scheduled intervals. Water is available at Race HQ and riverway amenities are open 24 hours.
- The event operates a fenced recovery area; participants must follow a leave-no-trace policy. Carry a phone for night laps and avoid entering the lagoon.
