Event overview
The Castle Hill Trail Run is a trail running event at Castle Hill in Townsville, Queensland, with Race HQ at Belgian Gardens State School (43 Potts Street). The event uses a wave start format with self-seeding into Fast, Medium and Slow start groups. Race entry includes electronic timing with a timing chip, on-course marshals, first aid support, on-course photography, and a marked and marshalled course. Presentations and prizes are awarded to top finishers and age group winners.
Distances
- 3 km : short course with exposed rock scramble sections.
- 7 km : mid-distance course with technical descents and climbs.
- 10 km : longest course with extended climbs, stairs and rock scrambles.
Course and logistics
All courses run on dry, rocky single track that includes stairs, rock scrambles and steep sections. Tracks are marked with tape, signage and course marshals at key junctions. The organiser recommends trail shoes with good grip. One on-course water point is available; no cups are provided so runners should use their own bottles. The 10 km category requires competitors to carry at least 500 ml of water. GPX route files and an athlete guide are provided.
Entry, awards and safety
Registration opens 1 December 2025 and closes 21 February 2026 or when sold out. Entry fees vary by distance and booking period, with reduced early bird rates and higher late entry fees. The event awards top three male and female finishers for each distance and age group prizes. Competitors must follow event rules, report if they do not finish, and take precautions for heat and technical terrain. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
