About the race
The Indian Head Turkey Trot is a chip-timed road race held along the Indian Head Rail Trail in White Plains, Maryland. The course is a flat, paved out-and-back route that runs along creeks and through woods; the 10 km is two laps of the out-and-back.

Runners receive a finisher’s medal, a technical (Dri-fit) event shirt, and chip timing. Water stations are placed along the courses : three stations on the 10 km at approximately mile markers 1.55, 3.1, and 4.65, and one station on the 5 km near mile 1.55; Gatorade is available at some stations. Port-a-johns are located near the check-in and registration area. Packet pickup is available at the event; organizers recommend arriving about one hour before the race to check in. Race day registration is offered, though shirt sizes cannot be guaranteed for late registrants.
The event awards the top three men and women overall and age-group placings across standard age categories; overall top-three finishers are not eligible for age-group awards. Results are posted live via Athlinks and final results with series points appear the Monday after the race. The event benefits Lovepaws, a community outreach program focused on keeping pets in homes in Prince George’s and Montgomery Counties, Maryland. A virtual race option is also available.
