About the race
The Ilkley Skyline is a fell running event based on a route conceived in 2013. The main route is a 22 mile loop with about 3000 ft elevation gain (approximately 35 km with 910 m ascent) that starts and finishes at The Hermit Inn in Burley Woodhead. The loop passes Beamsley Beacon, Round Hill and summits on Burley Moor, Ilkley Moor and Rombalds Moor, and covers at least eight moors.
The event includes checkpoints and two aid stations located at Addingham (14 km) and Timble (25 km). Most of the route is on fell or field terrain with some short sections of road; the longest road section is the climb from the river at the stepping stones through Burley back to The Hermit.
Navigation is required because the route is unmarked. Runners must use a route map or a GPX file; GPX use is allowed and a GPX route is available in the maps tab. The course lies on accessible land and recces are encouraged but not essential.
A shorter option follows the same line as part of the route: the Ilkley Skyline Half is a 21 km point to point from Addingham suspension bridge to The Hermit. Competitors will be transported from The Hermit to Addingham after the main route has started. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
