About the race
If You're Not First You're Last is a Last Man Standing style event held in Eagle, Idaho and organized by Pulse Running. Runners repeat a measured loop of 4.167 miles with each loop required to be completed within one hour. The race continues in hourly rounds until only one competitor returns to start to begin another loop.
Distances and options:
- 4.167 mile loop repeated hourly
- 3 Loop Challenge
- 50K counts toward the Idaho Trail Ultra Series (ITUS) points
The Last Man Standing format requires participants to be present in the starting corral at the bell for each loop; failure to be present at the initial bell results in a DNS and missing a subsequent bell results in a DNF. The winner is the last runner to complete a loop and must complete one more loop than all other competitors. If no runner can complete an extra loop, there is no winner. Results record distance covered for every runner. The event is open ended with no overall time limit, no cutoffs, and no tie breakers.
Additional event details include packet pickup in Boise in the days before the event, guaranteed schwag for registrations made by September 1, same day registration availability, no refunds, a minimal aid station at start/finish, limits of two crew members per runner at the start/finish, and a prohibition on personal aid or non-competitors on the course during loops.
