Ice Breaker 8K Run/Walk
The Ice Breaker is an 8K trail event held at Lakeside Park in Piedmont, SC and hosted by Square One Events for the fifth time. The course uses the Every Minute Trail and All Day, Baby Trail for a rolling run, walk, or hike through woods on mostly single-track paths.
The route begins with a short lap around the baseball diamond sidewalk to space out roughly 150 runners before entering the trailhead. The trails include several undulations, switchbacks, minimal roots, and a few gradual inclines. A central hub with an aid station is passed twice; additional aid is available at two separate mile markers. Strollers are not recommended because of the terrain. Runners, walkers, hikers and leashed dogs are welcome.
Start and finish are located between the baseball diamonds and the football field on the east side of Lakeside Park. Parking is available in the marked spaces around the baseball fields. Packet pickup is held near the starting line approximately one hour before the race start. Chip timing is used and all finishers receive a finisher medal. Awards include top three male and female overall and top three male and female in age-group categories, which range from 1-9 up through 70+.
