The Ian Charlesworth Hartcliff Hill Race is a BS category fell race held in Penistone, Sheffield. The course covers a distance of 4.6 miles (7.4km) with a total ascent of 709ft (216m). It follows a marked and marshalled route, meaning participants do not require prior navigation experience, though runners are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the path beforehand.
Course Details
The terrain consists of a mixture of grassy fields and rough tracks, including three short sections of asphalt road. Participants must exercise caution on these road sections as marshals are not authorised to stop traffic. The race starts and finishes on the playing fields adjacent to the Penistone Bowling Club. The event follows a single-lap profile and is held under FRA rules.
Participation and Logistics
The event is open to runners aged 17 and over as of 31 December 2026. There is an entry limit of 200 participants. While there is no mandatory kit requirement, runners are expected to use their own judgement regarding what equipment to carry.
