I Ran the D 5K

I Ran the D 5K is an annual 5K Run/Walk held in Detroit that starts at Comerica Park near the Big Tiger, follows streets through the Brush Park neighborhood, circumnavigates Ford Field, and returns to Comerica Park. After crossing the finish, participants are invited to take a lap on the Comerica Park field.

The event benefits the Detroit Sports Commission, a 501 (c)3 charity, and its Living Legacy Initiative. This initiative supports youth literacy, youth sports, and the growth of girls’ sports in Detroit. Proceeds from the race contribute to the DSC Community Grant Program; in 2024 that program awarded $225,000 in grants to 27 nonprofit organizations across the city.

Registration details published for the event indicate included items such as a hooded custom long sleeve running shirt featuring all four Detroit professional teams, a custom bib, and a finishers medal with a bottle opener. The event offers in-person and virtual 5K options, plus race packages that pair race entry with Detroit professional team tickets and related benefits. The course description locates the start and finish at Comerica Park and specifies a neighborhood route that passes Ford Field. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
