Hutton Roof Crags Fell Race

The Hutton Roof Crags Fell Race is a traditional fell running event marking its 40th edition. The main course covers a distance of 11.2 km (7 miles) and involves 400 metres of total ascent. The route traverses Hutton Roof Crags and Farleton Knott, using established paths for much of the way, though only the start and finish sections are marked.

The race operates under Fell Runners Association (FRA) rules as a "B Medium" categorised event. Participants must be self-sufficient and capable of self-navigation using a physical map and compass, as the use of any GPS devices is strictly prohibited. The course includes three mandatory checkpoints, and runners must adhere to a total race time limit of 2 hours 15 minutes. Specific kit requirements may be enforced by the organiser on the day of the event based on weather conditions.

In addition to the main race, several junior categories are available:

  • U10/U12
  • U14/U16
  • U18/U20

The event is held in conjunction with a country fair at the Hutton Roof Village Hall. Facilities include refreshments and parking in a field adjacent to the hall. The junior races require entry on the day, while the main fell race requires participants to collect their race numbers prior to the start. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
