Hutton Roof Crags Fell Race
The Hutton Roof Crags Fell Race is a traditional fell running event covering 7 miles (11.2 km) with approximately 400 metres of ascent. The route passes through Hutton Roof Crags and Farleton Knott and generally follows established paths, but only the start and finish are marked. Navigation is required and competitors must follow guidance under Fell Runners Association rules.
The event emphasizes self sufficiency and self navigation; the use of GPS devices of any kind is prohibited. Runners should carry and use a physical map and compass. The scree on Farleton Knott is out of bounds because of erosion concerns. The race is classified as a B Medium event under FRA rules and the organiser may require specific kit on the day. A race time limit of 2 hours 15 minutes applies and checkpoint cut offs will be used; there are three mandatory checkpoints on the course.
Prizes are awarded across open and veteran categories and team prizes are included. The event is held alongside a country fair and junior races, with cakes and refreshments served in the Village Hall. Junior races follow FRA age categories and have an on the day entry fee; the minimum age for junior entry is six years. Car parking is provided on the field adjacent to the Village Hall and donations are requested. The fell race has a long history of supporting the Village Hall.
