Event Overview
The HRCA Independence Day 5K is a festive 5K run/walk held on July 4th in Littleton, Colorado. The event is described as family-friendly and welcomes participants of all types, including first-time runners, kids, parents with strollers, and dogs.
Course Details
The route starts and finishes on Dorchester Street. It goes north to Plaza Drive, loops back along Broadway, goes down Highlands Ranch Parkway, and returns to Town Center South. The total ascent is 130 feet, with a maximum elevation of 5,704 feet. The course includes one aid station with water.
Participant Perks
All participants receive a race t-shirt, an Independence Day 5K pint glass, a custom race bib, a pancake breakfast from Flippin' Flapjacks, and a post-race beer from Living the Dream Brewing.
Awards and Registration
Medals are awarded to the top three finishers in each gender category (Male, Female, Non-Binary) and within standard age groups. Registration is required online, as there is no on-site registration. Standard registration is $40, with a discounted rate of $20 for ages 2-12. The price increases after May 21, 2026. A special game involves finding a hidden red, white, and blue kettlebell on the course for a $100 prize.
Logistics
Free parking is available in the Highlands Ranch town center parking garage. Packet pickup is available on race day, with pre-race pickup details to be announced. Restrooms are available near the start/finish area. Medical services will be stationed near the start/finish line. Participants are encouraged to wear patriotic costumes.
