HRCA Backcountry Wilderness Half Marathon
The HRCA Backcountry Wilderness Half Marathon is an annual trail running event held in Lone Tree, Colorado. The race follows a single-loop course through the Highlands Ranch Backcountry Wilderness Area and the Douglas County East/West Trail. The route consists entirely of dirt, gravel, and singletrack paths, featuring hills and views of the Front Range.
Available distances:
- 13.1 miles
The course includes four aid stations providing water and electrolytes. To minimize waste, the organizers encourage runners to carry their own hydration systems. The event has two specific time limits: participants must reach the 8.9-mile mark at the Grigs Rd Pavilion within 2 hours and 35 minutes of the final corral start, and the entire course must be completed within 3 hours and 50 minutes.
Registered participants receive a long-sleeve technical race shirt, a custom race bib, and a finisher medal. Post-race amenities include a pancake breakfast and beverages. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three male, female, and non-binary finishers.
For safety and wildlife protection, dogs and strollers are not permitted on the course. Free parking is available for participants at Rocky Heights Middle School and Rock Canyon High School. A secure bag check is also provided at the start and finish area near 11033 Monarch Blvd. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
