About the race
The Backcountry Wilderness Half Marathon is the 18th annual running of a 13.1 miles trail race in Highlands Ranch, Colorado, held on November 7, 2026. The course follows the Douglas County East/West Trail and trails inside the Highlands Ranch Backcountry Wilderness Area, featuring singletrack sections, hill terrain, and scenic views. Cash prizes are awarded to the top three finishers in male, female, and non-binary divisions: 1st $600, 2nd $400, and 3rd $200. Event registration includes a long sleeve technical race shirt, a custom race bib, and a custom finisher medal.
Participants are also provided a pancake breakfast from Flippin' Flapjacks and post-race beers provided by Living the Dream Brewing. The event is presented by the Highlands Ranch Community Association and takes place in the Highlands Ranch area. The association's community address is 9568 S.
